Alternative Learning Spaces
2025-2026
Through the support of Expertise France, Education Above All and Theirworld, LAL implemented the Alternative Learning Spaces (ALS) project. The ALS are safe and engaging learning environments across different regions of Lebanon, providing children and youth aged 6 to 18 with the support they need to continue learning despite challenges. Through these spaces, students can reinforce their skills, fill learning gaps, and develop confidence, while educators receive the tools and training to deliver high-quality, student-centered instruction.
Our goal is to establish a scalable model for nationwide expansion, offering flexible and inclusive learning opportunities for all students.
To achieve this, we leverage our existing resources and partnerships:
- Tabshoura: Free digital learning platform aligned with the Lebanese curriculum.
- BeeKee-Tabshoura Boxes: Innovative offline servers bringing Tabshoura digital content to the spaces.
- Tabshoura App: Allowing to download content on phones of tablets and using it offline.
- Lalmoudaress: Platform providing lesson plans and professional development for blended and self-directed learning.
- IFERB (Internet-Free Education Resource Bank): Over 500 hands-on, project-based learning resources developed by Education Above All, including Let Kids be Kids‘ SEL activities.
- Thaki Laptops: Refurbished devices preloaded with learning content, including social-emotional stories to support children’s well-being.
- Tree House donated computers to support teachers and learners.
- Design for Communities for the conception and implementation of the design of the domes and the refurbished rooms.
Through ALS, students enjoy interactive, self-directed learning, while educators are empowered to deliver impactful, blended learning experiences across Lebanon.
Self-Directed Learning
We provide students with structured, progressive learning packages, tools, and templates that enable them to learn at their own pace and take ownership of their educational journey. This approach is complemented by face-to-face sessions, where dedicated local teachers offer guidance, support, and help students monitor their progress. Our methodology follows three core learning phases: planning, applying, and evaluating.
